The good thing about Civ 6, factions, is they have a unique leader abilty AND a uninque civ ability. Most people complaining actually dislike the AI, or certain aspects like the graphics, or the district system, or balance, etc from what I have seen. It's a good stepping stone to play some of the more complex Paradox Games, or Distant Worlds, etc, for sure, but it's not hard to learn in any way. The hardest I guess was learning the new tile system from IV to V. None of them were hard to learn, nor really took long. I have played all of the Civ games besides Civ 1 now. I play tons of grand strategy and other strategy games though, and Civ IV is what introduced me to those. Civ is not a hard game so that's an odd comment for Swamp Cat to make. If your going to get 6 I would at the least make sure you have both expansions. Myabe I should just forget it and wait for Civ VII lol I'm just concerned that the base game will be underwhelming I have read comments saying it is bad without the dlc. Tbh I was leaning towards Civ V but I am starting to think VI might be better for me. Yes see this was my concern that the criticism was unfounded. so people who played many 100's of hours Civ V had to relearn to play Civ VI, therefore they complain about Civ VI and say Civ V is better. but is way too much for a new player to learn at once.Ĭiv 6 base game would be perfect, as its not too much to learn, i would just to stick to that for a couple of months first as its plenty to learn as a new player.

The DLC is more for Civ experts as it throws in tons more complicated stuff, (this is extras like earthquakes/storms etc that is fun for a pro -player). In all honesty if that is the case, I would just buy Civ 6 base game, as it will be easier to learn. If this is the case, that you want to enjoy a civilization game, as you want to enjoy it, but your experience you played a bit of Civ2 and it was a bit complicated. So basically, if I want the better game get Civ VI but with the dlc, if it's a choice between Civ V complete vs Civ VI vanilla then get V? It's not so much a temporary itch, i've always wanted to play Civ (messed about with II but didn't understand it at the time) so I figured now would be a good time with the sales as well. But if you just want to pick this up to scratch a temporary itch then get Civ V with all expansions. If you plan on getting more expansions down the line Civ VI is a greater ROI. Originally posted by KDM hope:Civ VI all expansions beats Civ V all expansions. So is Civ VI THAT bad? Or has most of the issues been fixed with updates or in the form of dlc? For a new player to Civ, would you recommend V complete edition or VI but the base game only (with a view to get dlc in the future perhaps).Ĭiv VI all expansions beats Civ V all expansions. I also understand there was a thing with the EULA which caused some negativity? It's just I find usually in this situation it's like one user had a legitimate issue with a game a single time and the whole community jumps on the bandwagon for the rest of the games lifespan giving the game in question an unfair reputation. It seems to be widely accepted that Civ V is the better game, but is it really?
